Brent Cloyd retired March 31 as Associational Mission Strategist for Greater Wabash Baptist Association. He served the local network of 22 churches since 2015.
“When people have asked me… I have always bragged that we are the best association in Illinois,” Cloyd wrote in his final newsletter. “Our churches differ from one another in many ways, yet we have a tremendous spirit of cooperation. Our churches are generous. If there is a special financial need such as the support of our Disaster Relief ministry, or our annual youth camp, or improvements on our buildings, our churches have graciously responded.”
Prior to his tenure at GWBA, Cloyd served as pastor of churches in Missouri and Illinois for 34 years. He pastored seven churches in Illinois. Currently Cloyd is serving as interim pastor of Calvary Church in Effingham. His wife, Jeanette, is active in IBSA women’s ministry leadership. The Cloyds, with their son, Brock, are familiar faces at state network events, serving on numerous teams and committees.
Cloyd has always been supportive of the network. “We are Baptist churches so we have autonomy and yet we know the value of abiding with one another,” he said.
