The Southern Baptist Executive Committee voted 68-1 to elect Ronnie Floyd Executive Committee president Tuesday, April 2 in Dallas, Texas.
Floyd, who is pastor of Cross Baptist Church in northwest Arkansas, immediately tweeted, “We asked the Lord for a declarative showing … Based on your call, I will be, this coming Sunday, resigning from’ Cross Church ‘and immediately taking the role of president-elect’ of the EC.”
IBSA Executive Director Nate Adams said of Floyd’s election, “Dr. Floyd is a gifted and experienced pastor and a respected national SBC leader who has been well prepared for this role. I look forward to working with him, and to seeing his vision unfold for the Executive Committee and our work together as Southern Baptists.”
Floyd’s nomination was announced Sunday, March 31. He is president of the National Day of Prayer Task Force and a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Two Illinois Baptists are members of the SBC Executive Committee – Sharon Carty, Emmanuel Baptist in Carlinville, and Adron Robinson, Hillcrest Baptist in Country Club Hills.
