Author and teacher Elizabeth Woodson will speak March 2 at First Baptist Church of O’Fallon. Her new book Habits of Resistance: 7 Ways You’re Being Formed By Culture and Gospel Practices to Help You Push Back identifies detrimental ways the culture is shaping Christians with false gospels that they may not recognize. She shares how to replace them with God’s “right, true, Gospel story.”
“Something about life is not as it should be,” Woodson writes. “Even though we don’t have the words to fully describe it, we just want what feels ‘off’ to be made right.” That, she says, is the biblical concept of shalom. And she offers seven habits to restore this wholeness.
One of the seven habits she lists is prayer. In an effort to find personal peace, the world offers self-help through the power of positive thinking, the law of attraction, and manifestation. Woodson writes peace is only found in Christ and its that connection through prayer that can bring a better peace.
According to Woodson, “The constant communication helps us stay alert, realigns our perspective to what is true, releases our death grip on the reins, and reminds us that peace is always available to us, because the true Source of all peace is always present with us (Phil. 4:6–7).”
Woodson is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and a regular contributor to Lifeway Women Academy. The 7 p.m. event is free of charge. Register at fbcofallon.churchcenter.com/home.
