The Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA) has canceled summer events requiring in-person participation through the month of June. This includes summer camps at Lake Sallateeska and Streator Baptist Camps, and the Super Summer leadership development week for students that was planned at Eastern Illinois University.
“We love our summer camps and activities, in fact, our volunteers and staff look forward to them all year long,” Associate Executive Director Mark Emerson said. “But, following the guidance of health officials, we must protect the wellbeing of potential participants and camp staff.”
Earlier this week, LifeWay Christian Resources, which operates camps for the Southern Baptist Convention, canceled its June events as well. LifeWay has made many resources for family discipleship available free online at this time.
“Our IBSA Leadership Development Team will help resource churches that are seeking to disciple students during this shelter-at-home period and beyond,” Emerson said. “Summer is still an excellent time for creative ministry for children and their families.”
A decision about July events will be announced in mid-May.
