Mike Young has rejoined the state staff after six years as pastor of Illinois churches. He will serve as IBSA Missions Director from his home in Carbondale. Young is the former Streator Camp manager, led revitalization there, and later provided oversight for both Streator and Lake Sallateeska camp facilities.
“As a part of Mike’s new role, he will be serving as our Disaster Relief State Director with the assignment of taking our DR ministry to the next level in participation and effectiveness,” said IBSA Missions Team leader Shannon Ford. “He will also be accepting missions and evangelism assignments, especially in Southern Illinois.”
Young had served as pastor of the Ridge Church in Carbondale, and before that was pastor of New Beginnings Church in Streator. As a member of that church, he was instrumental in the formation of New Beginnings as a merger of two other Streator churches.
Before joining IBSA in 2016, the Youngs were missionaries with the SBC International Mission Board for over nine years, serving in the Czech Republic.
Young has recently served as a member of the IBSA Board. “We are very excited to have Mike and Wendy back in the IBSA (staff) family,” Ford said. Young concurred, “I’m excited about this new role.”
His return is effective August 1.
