Two teenage daughters of an Illinois Baptist pastor and the pastor’s sister were killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer near Breckenmeyer in Clinton County on Friday. The girls, 17-year-old Savanna Grace Broughton and 15-year-old Brooke-Lynn Kay Broughton, are the daughters of Scott and Amanda Broughton. He is the pastor of First Baptist Church of Carlyle. Also killed was Pastor Broughton’s sister, Rhonda Evans, of Ackerman, Mississippi, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.
Funeral service is set for Monday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carlyle. Visitation will precede the service beginning at noon.
Both girls were active in the church’s worship ministry. Savanna would have been a senior at Carlyle High School in the fall. She served as Student Council President, was a member of the homecoming court, and was a reporter for the high school’s chapter of FFA. She had a passion for mission work and served at homeless and women’s shelters.
Brooke-Lynn played tenor sax in the high school band and was a member of the color guard. She loved art and painting.
Local authorities reported the car the girls were in drifted across the center line on Old Highway 50 and collided with the tractor-trailer. The truck driver received only minor injuries.
Savanna and Brooke-Lynn are survived by their parents, siblings Mary Kathryn and Emerson Keeton Broughton; and their maternal grandparents.
Memorials are suggested in honor of the girls’ interests to the Clinton High School Class of 2023 and the Clinton High School Band.
