Stetzer leaves Wheaton to lead Biola’s theology school

March 15, 2023 By The Baptist Paper

Missiologist Ed Stetzer will serve as dean of the Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, a nondenominational evangelical university in La Mirada, California. Stetzer is currently a professor and dean at Wheaton College and executive director of the Billy Graham Center.

He is a former vice president of Lifeway Christian Resources and previously served at the North American Mission Board. Stetzer begins his new role July 2.

“For decades, (his) visionary presence—most recently at Wheaton College’s Billy Graham Center—has deeply strengthened the cause of the gospel through men and women across America and around the world,” said Biola President Barry H. Corey. He called Stetzer “ a courageous and compelling voice” who will “bring the virtue of imagination through his creative ability to convene, inspire, and commission a wide range of students called to live out their Christian witness full of truth and full of grace.”

Stetzer has served as a church planter and pastor and has long trained fellow church leaders through outlets including his blog, books, and radio show. He is editor-in-chief of Outreach Magazine and host of the Stetzer Church Leaders Podcast. He holds degrees from Southern Seminary, Beeson Divinity School at Samford University, Liberty University.

While in Illinois, Stetzer was a regular contributor to Christianity Today based in Carol Stream.  He served in leadership roles at Chicago’s Moody Church and High Point Church in Naperville, which is a NAMB partner and former partner with the Harvest Bible Chapel network of churches.

Spectators or participants?

Meredith Flynn

My church is in a season of refocusing on prayer. Every Sunday before the sermon, we break into small groups and pray together. We all have “good old days” in our lives. They may be the days when we felt most successful or appreciated, or when things were done the way we agreed with or liked, or when those we respected were in charge. Most of us have good old days in our churches too. Days when our […]

How we can speak to men in the abortion conversation

Justin Mullins

As a pastor, father and follower of Christ, I have often found myself with a heavy heart when I think and pray about abortion. I’m saddened. I’m sickened. I’m burdened for the life of preborn children who are precious in the sight of God. And I have a deep conviction that there’s more that I […]

Lifeway Research

A new survey of Hispanic churches shows their attenders are younger and more evangelistic than at other Protestant churches—and there are more of them in worship on any given Sunday. Together with two dozen other religious organizations, Lifeway Research polled 692 pastors of churches that are at least 50% Hispanic for the largest survey of […]

Sallateeska baptism demonstrates SBC connections

Baptist Press

(Ed. Note—In our July issue, we reported that Illinois’s very own Sandy Wisdom-Martin told the story of her brother’s recent baptism during her WMU presentation at the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Anaheim. We thought we you would appreciate this longer account that shows God’s fingerprints through multiple SBC connections. It’s too good to miss.) […]
