IBSA ministers’ wives will meet for brunch and encouragement on Nov. 7 at First Baptist Church, Maryville. The annual gathering will emphasize prayer this year, said coordinator Stevi Smith.
“God is stirring in me the necessity for intimate and intentional prayer for our pastor husbands,” said Smith, whose husband, David, is pastor of First Baptist Church in Grayville.
Referencing recent public personal failings of Southern Baptist leaders, Smith said she started praying for protection and strength for her husband. She became convinced of the need for a revived prayer life, and to learn more about the practice of prayer. One helpful resource was “Growing in Gratitude” by Mary Mohler, who will serve as keynote speaker for the women’s gathering in Maryville.
“Mrs. Mohler will be encouraging and teaching the ministers’ wives how to revive our prayer life, specifically for our pastor husbands,” Smith said. Mohler is the wife of Southern Seminary President Albert Mohler. She also directs Southern’s Seminary Wives Institute.
