Chicago | About 700 Southern Baptists from 11 states, including Illinois, pre-registered to serve through 47 projects with the North American Mission Board’s Serve Tour Chicago on August 4-5. A couple hundred more walk-up participants are expected to join them. Together they are joining with local Illinois Baptist churches in doing community service projects and sharing Christ throughout Chicagoland.
Pictured above is a team from Bloomfield (Ky.) Baptist Church in blue with Grace Family Church, in the New Field School Cafeteria in Rogers Park. The church meets in this room on Sundays. Working together they cleaned, collected trash around the building, and assembled the furniture they’re sitting on for the school Friday morning.
Sixty-seven Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief (IBDR) volunteers are using Armitage Baptist Church as their base to prepare and pack sack lunches to serve participants in the field. Some volunteers are also serving the church by assisting with painting and other needed projects.
We’ll be providing additional coverage of the event on this website and in the September print version of the Illinois Baptist newspaper. You can find more photos from the event on our Facebook page.
